European Education Days Irkutsk

One of the main activities, held in the framework of the project during the first phase of its implementation, having a direct impact on the target groups of the project among which are future and actual students, teachers and other representatives on higher educational institutions of the East Siberian region of Russia, deputies of administrative and public bodies, and general public, was the organization of European Education Days in Irkutsk in the period from December 3 to December 6, 2012.  These days were devoted to the problems of international cooperation in the sphere of higher education, the idea of the activity fitting most straightforwardly the main objective of the SCEE project which is a promotion of European higher education in Siberia.

As a part of this event, an international conference «Bologna process in Russia and Europe. The development of joint educational programs» took place on December 4 and 5. During the first day of the conference problems on creation of joint educational programs (double degree programs, mutual recognition of documents on education, adaptation of Russian academic programs to European standards in the framework of the Bologna Process) and establishing close cooperation between EU, Russia and other countries in the field of higher education were discussed. Representatives of universities from Irkutsk, Khabarovsk, Yekaterinburg, general consulates of countries accredited in Irkutsk: China, Mongolia, Republic of Korea and Republic of Poland gave welcome addresses, delivered talks and lectures at the conference. Representatives from the Administration of Irkutsk and the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Irkutsk also took active part in the work of the conference. The speakers from abroad were represented by professors from the consortium partner universities. The conference was held at the highest level and attracted a lot of interest from the general public.

The second day of the conference was devoted to problems and prospects of obtaining higher education in European universities by Russian students. It consisted of a panel discussion, meetings with representatives of Alliance Française, DAAD and Polish consulate with Irkutsk students, where the former advertised possibilities for study and for continuation of study at the universities of their countries, explained the related issues (visa, stay, cultural emerging etc.), and answered numerous questions of students from different Irkutsk universities. At the time of the breaks between presentations advertising materials of partner universities, including prospects and brochures about the universities and their international programs, were distributed among the students.

The European Education Days held in Irkutsk were widely advertised and then publicized in the regional media.

The conference was followed by the second coordination meeting of the partners of SCEE consortium. During this conference several sessions on the results and outcomes of the European Education Days, general progress of the project and planning the future actions in the framework of the project were organized.  The activities foreseen at the second stage of the project’s implementation: management of the teachers’ mobility within the project, launching joining educational programs, organizing future promotion events of the project in Yekaterinburg and Khabarovsk were discussed among other questions.
