In the beginning of February two representatives of Pacific National University (Khabarovsk, Russia) visited the University of Montpellier 2 in the framework of the SCEE project.

The talking point was signing the inter-university cooperation agreement and developing joint master program in “International management” for the students of both universities. The meeting took place at the School of Management.

On behalf of PNU there were First vice-rector for strategic development and international cooperation Aleksandr Zubarev and the head of research and engineering programs Department Iuliia Leonova.

During the meeting Director of Master’s Degrees of the University of Montpellier 2 Emmanuel Houze spoke on different aspects of academic process in the university, variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the field of management, selection of courses entirely taught in English, research facilities and internship opportunities.

Such issues as the structure of the master program “International management”, the implementation of the projects, the work schedule, and joint research in the frames of international grant programs, establishing a comparative system of credits and results/appreciations obtained in the host university were also discussed with the representatives of School of Management. The opportunity of reading lectures and holding workshops by the professors of the School of Management of the University of Montpellier 2 at PNU was offered.

It was agreed upon that the master program will be realized in the following way. The students will study at the partner university during the first year, and at home university – during the second year. Two supervisors from both universities will be appointed for writing master thesis. Thesis defense will be held via videoconference. The students may choose where to take an internship, either at Montpellier or Khabarovsk enterprises. The students will cover tuition fee, travel expenses, housing and other living expenses. The program will be launched in 2015/2016 academic year.

Regarding other results of the negotiations it was decided to promote partnership between the universities and encourage the exchange programs of teaching and research staff in the framework of academic courses, of research and teaching activities. A specific agreement on double diploma programs is to be signed in May 2014 at the University of Montpellier 2.

Business trip of Ivan V. Kulik, the deputy dean of School of Economics and Management (SEM), Tatyana G. Motovits, the deputy dean of SEM, and Julia A. Leonova, the Head of Research and Engineering Program Department (Office of International Affairs) to the University of Montpellier 2 (Montpellier, France) took place from April 26, 2014 to May 03, 2014.

The aim of the given business trip was matching study plans of both universities in frames of the double degree Master’s program in Management “International Business”.

On behalf of the University of Montpellier 2 there were prof. Emmanuel Houze, the deputy director of the School of Management UM2, who is responsible for postgraduate programs, Jessie Eveillard, incoming students coordinator, prof. Gregory Bouviala, the Head of Administration of the School of Management Montpellier, and prof. Regis Meissonier.

During the negotiations the first matching of study plans on the course of Management for Master’s program of International Business was made. The university representatives discussed the content of study plans, and took the joint resolution to develop two study plans on training Masters in Management and give them double degrees of the PNU and the University of Montpellier 2. The parties came to agreement that 50% of courses need to be conducted by a foreign partner-university, and also assigned a compulsory set of courses.

Representatives of the School of Management presented a draft Agreement of “double degree” for consideration and the structure of Master’s thesis for discussion. It was suggested that there should be two supervisors for a master student “from both sides” (Russian and French supervisors), that a master thesis can be academic as well as of applied type. Depending on a type of a master thesis selected by an undergraduate (academic or applied type) a focus of a paper will be done on the following: for an academic thesis the focus is on theoretical research, for an applied type of the thesis the focus is on practical recommendations and methods of management for a chosen type of business. The defense of a master’s thesis may to be led using an on-line video conference system.

During the negotiations the matching of both study plans was completed. The representatives of the School of Management of University of Montpellier 2 approved the final version of study plans, discussed a draft of the double diplomas agreement, including the certification of study courses.

The School of Managment of University of Montpellier 2 offered to expend fields of cooperation: in the sphere of exchange of professors for giving author’s courses, joint scientific research activity (including grants), holding joint scientific conferences. Representatives of the University of Montpellier 2 expressed their wish to participate in the development of the double degree projects in other educational programs, including technical, humanitarian and other spheres.

The geographical location of PNU in the Far East of Russian Federation is an excellent informational platform for conducting scientific-research activities on issues concerning Asia-Pacific Region. The University of Montpellier 2 is interested to make scientific-educational ground on the basis of PNU for expanding sphere of their interests in Asia-Pacific Region. Thus, the cooperation between two universities represents a mutual interest.
